What is the Music Production Lab?
Since our opening in 2007, we have always known how passionate our students are about creating original music. While this interest continues to be a driving force in why some of our students take our lessons, we have had a hard time overcoming an obstacle keeping us from offering a class in music production: gear.
During our recent Level Up Boot Camp and with the input of our students, we have finally come up with a great way to offer an introductory class to nurture our students’ ability to write and produce their own original songs at home.
Starting in August, we want to share our passion for music production by offering a new class called the Music Production Lab at The Hit.
In this once-a-week, 45-minute virtual group class, enrolled students will get to practice some of the essential components of creating and recording their parts to original songs using a supplied multitrack recorder to keep at home. The class will include the monthly rental of all of the essential equipment students will need at home to start creating their music productions.
In addition to the class time, students will have exclusive access to step-by-step video tutorials on how to use the supplied multitrack recorder to revisit the material and assignments included in the course.
What is a Multitrack Recorder?
To put it in simple terms, a multi-track recorder is a mini recording studio.
We understand that for most of our students it is not feasible to invest hundreds of dollars to get a taste of the process of recording and producing songs. The Zoom R8 is one of the best options when it comes to a battery-operated stand-alone production tool. It has the ability to record audio using its own built-in microphones or by plugging in instruments like a guitar, keyboard, or bass.

In this session, club members will be working on their weekly assignments, sharing their progress and receiving tailored feedback to their compositions. Additionally, we will encourage club members to work as a team to develop a small community of young, local musicians that share a common love for music and creating songs.
